Biomass in agriculture: heating of dryers and greenhouses

There are few sectors where biomass heating would be as obvious as in agriculture. The fuel, whether it is prunings, wood waste or energy plantations, is often generated on-site or in the neighborhood, and the heat demand is large and well-plannable: crop drying in autumn, greenhouse and foil tent heating in winter and spring.

Drying: short season, high performance

The characteristic of crop drying is that a very large amount of heat is needed within a few weeks. High-capacity machines designed for continuous operation are required here: the premium wood chip boilers from Fröling Turbomat or the specifically industrial MAWERA equipment are designed precisely for this task. From time to time, 300-500 kW machines also pass through our warehouse, and when installed in pairs, a capacity of around a megawatt can also be built.

Compared to the cost of gas-fired drying, wood chips typically yield savings that cover the price of a refurbished machine in just one or two seasons. In addition to the dryer, the same boiler can also heat livestock buildings or the social block in winter.

Greenhouse: the long-term consumer

Greenhouse and foil tent heating is a reverse formula: steady heat demand lasting for months, where every saved Forint is multiplied. This is why robust, large-water-volume biomass boilers, supplemented with buffer tanks, have become widespread among horticultural businesses. A Viessmann-KÖB or Herz machine of several hundred kilowatts carries the entire heat supply of a medium-sized horticulture.
