Unpredictable energy prices: what can a plant do in 2026?

Anyone who has heated an industrial hall, workshop or site in recent years knows exactly: the size of the bill today no longer depends primarily on the cold, but on which way the markets are moving. One year the price of gas doubles, the next it falls back, but in both cases it is impossible to plan.

Based on our experience, a significant portion of domestic plants still use heating systems that were designed when energy prices were a minor consideration. A twenty-to-thirty-year-old gas boiler or an incorrectly sized system on its own heats twenty-to-thirty percent more expensively than it should.

Predictability is worth more than cheapness

The most important lesson of recent years is not which energy source is the cheapest, but which one has a predictable price. The prices of firewood, wood chips, and pellets also fluctuate, but with orders of magnitude smaller swings than that of piped gas, and can typically be contracted from local sources in HUF.

Therefore, a plant switching to a biomass boiler not only saves money, but above all makes its coming years predictable. The fuel can be contracted in advance, the supplier is twenty kilometers away, and it is not a stock exchange quotation that decides how much January will cost.

With a used machine, even the investment threshold can be crossed

The biggest obstacle to switching is usually the investment cost: the price of a new, industrial-scale biomass boiler is easily a tens-of-millions-HUF item. At this point, it is worth considering refurbished machines. The Fröling, KWB, Hargassner, or Guntamatic boilers in our warehouse are typically available for a fraction of the new price, while representing the same German-Austrian engineering quality.

The price of a used wood chip boiler of around 100-200 kW in good condition and fully inspected is in many cases recovered from the savings of two to three heating seasons. This is the payback period that even a cautious company manager can calculate with.
